Description
A Very Rare Korean Iron PortableHand-Carrying Lantern
(
照足
燈
)
-19th C
:
Korea, Joseon dynasty, 19th century.
***This type of iron portable lantern (
照足
燈
)
is extremely rare and
It’s never been published in museums, private collections or in auction houses as my best knowledge. Made with iron in the shape of lotus hexagonal lower body, and cylindrical iron hand carrying bar with a folding curtain shape floral decoration. Inside, the candle is supported by a revolving clamp that allows the candle to remain in up-right, irrespective of the direction the lantern swings.
It’s in fair condition with its aged rust and patina (some body panel
loosened but easily can fix it), it measures 14” h x 9” d.
(35cm x 23cm
) respectably.
***An almost identical lantern (
照足
燈
)
but a paper lantern sold at
